The growing trend of Hollywood stars in Broadway productions once again emerges in two upcoming shows for the 2009-2010 season. A View from the Bridge by legendary playwright Arthur Miller will open at the Cort Theatre (138 West 48th Street). Previews will begin on Monday, December 28, 2009 and the opening night will be Sunday, January 24, 2010. As a limited engagement, it is set to run for 14 weeks. Oh, and those stars? Scarlett Johansson and Liev Schreiber. Although Schreiber has stage credits to his name, he is more well-known than say, a Norbert Leo-Butz.
Neil Simon's Promises Promises will open at the Broadway Theatre in the spring of 2010. Previews will begin on Sunday, March 28th, 2010 and opening night is set for Sunday, April 25th, 2010. Sean Hayes (best known for his role as Jack on Will & Grace, yet with some stage experience) and Kristin Chenoweth (currently known by the majority of television watchers as a funny cameo from Glee, yet with a large stage repertoire of experience).
Hopefully the star power will drive in audiences, but also, maybe audiences can see past the famous cast members and enjoy theatre for theatre.
