Las Vegas, once known as just a gambling town in the desert, is now known for much more, including the culinary scene which has been booming over the past decade. New restaurants are opening on and off the Strip all the time. Even if you're a frequent visitor to the city, chances are a new eatery has opened since the last time you've been. As 2009 winds down, several restaurants will be opening before years end:
- Legendary blues artist B.B. King will bring his popular restaurant, bar and nightlife venue, B.B. King's Blues Club, to The Mirage this winter. The restaurant will serve the best in Creole cuisine fused with a southern comfort touch, with signature items like Fried Dill Pickles, Gumbo Ya Ya Straight from the Bayou, Lip Smacking Ribs, Southern Fried Catfish and Banana Bread Pudding. The venue will also offer live music seven nights a week, complete with a stage and dance floor. For more info, visit the restaurant's website.
- Rock legend Sammy Hagar will open his world-famous Cabo Wabo Cantina early this month inside Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. The two-level, 15,000 square-foot nightclub and restaurant will overlook the Vegas Strip and will offer a blend of live music and coastal Mexican fare, as well as a cocktail menu with a heavy emphasis on tequila. Visit Cabo Wabo's Facebook page for more details.
- For those wanting a refreshing treat while cruising the Strip, the Yogurt In has just opened at The Shoppes at Mandalay Place, located between Mandalay Bay and the Luxor. The Yogurt In lets guests create their own frozen dessert masterpiece or order from an extensive menu of sweet and savory crepes. There are 16 rotating frozen yogurt flavors and an abundant selection of do-it-yourself toppings, as well as unique, made-to-order shakes. The Yogurt In is open daily from 10am to midnight.
- Grind Burger & Lounge, featuring a premium build-your-own burger bar, recently opened just east of the Strip. The restaurant allows you to customize your burger by choosing the type of meat - including chicken and vegetarian options - as well as the bun, cheese, toppings and sauces. Premium toppings include those which you may not find at other burger joints, like Sicilian Olive Salad, Ajavar, Hot Cappy and Nueske Bacon. Grind Burger & Lounge is located at 360 E. Tropicana, between Paradise and Koval. Want to know more? Then click here.
Though not a restaurant, I should also mention that Pete's Dueling Piano Bar will open November 13 at the Town Square shopping center, located at the south end of the Strip. Pete's will bring a unique brand of high energy rock and roll pianos to Las Vegas, as well as four of the best entertainers in the country. This will be the perfect place to celebrate any type of occasion, including birthdays, graduations or bachelorette parties. Table reservations can be made by calling (702) 220-7383.
