Redondo Beach is very unique. It is one of three beach cities located in the South Bay region of the greater Los Angeles area. Divided into two logical North/South areas, South Redondo has the pier and directly borders Hermosa Beach. North Redondo borders Manhattan Beach. Redondo is considered quiet, laid back and not as trendy as it's sister cities Hermosa and Manhattan Beach. Redondo Beach is the place to be if you are looking for "village" charm and ambiance, a great family vacation or romantic destination for two. The Riviera Village has art galleries, restaurants, cafes and shops. It is located south of the Redondo Beach Pier and North of Palos Verdes.
The beach in Redondo sits below PCH, there is parking (metered) and many dining options in walking distance. Along the beach is a path (the Strand), it is popular for bicycling, skating and running. Having lived on Avenue G in Redondo Beach for 7 years, I was lucky to live in such a beautiful and safe city just south of the always bustling and ever growing city of Los Angeles. I go back to visit whenever I get the chance. North Redondo is home to the South Bay Galleria and Shopping Center, the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center and the Civic Light Opera of the South Bay Cities.
The Marina, Harbor and Pier are large planned centers of activity, full of restaurants, shops and and bars. In Jan, 1988, an ocean storm generating 20 ft. waves, destroyed half of the 60 year old horseshoe shaped pier. Shortly after that, in May of the same year, a fire followed. It was rebuilt and now is larger than the original. El Torito Restaurant, Tony's and the Pacific Fish Center are some of the restaurants located here, along with shops that sell a large variety of sportswear, gift shops and even a kite store.
Now is a good time to visit, the weather is ideal. Redondo Beach is one of the most beautiful, clean beaches in Southern California. Once you experience all that Redondo has to offer, you won't be disappointed, you may even want to move there!
