Aspen Mathews, an original creation from the late Michael Turner out of his Aspen MLT Comics publishing house now located in Culver City, CA, is one of the more well-known faces of all women in print comics. Without recognizing a story line, seeing the face and captivative eyes will make the regular Joe take notice and the comic fiend look back at their Fathom books.
Her story begins as an implied stow-away onboard the paradise who was taken in by officer Captain Matthews. She immediately took to swimming, which lead her to gold in the 1988 Olympics. After graduating from UC San Diego with a degree in Marine Biology, she was invited by The DMD to study at the underwater science facility.
During a test mission for the US Navy, The DMD is destroyed and thus begins the powers of Aspen. Almost drowning in the accident, she was seen disolving into water by a government personnell who introduces her to her actual water-controlling aquating human race called the Blue.
Further into the Fathom series, an ancestor species called The Black, who are far more powerful than The Blue, kidnap Aspen and introduce her to her father Rahger. This climax ends an "Aspen" comic series run and ignites the "Dawn of War" series.
Growing to 10 trade paperbacks in 10 years, it's surprising coming to a close of 2009 that a movie release date hasn't officially been announced. Earlier this year, the movie was announced to star Megan Fox, but little has come through the comic lines since. Still, hopes for 2010 are to get that golden line of a release date.
