If you’ve been hunting for the perfect dog sitter, you can rest assured that your search will come to an end with your first visit to Dogs-a-Jammin’ in Woodinville. Experienced and intuitive dog enthusiast Terri Gately offers loving, kennel-free boarding and day care in her home on seven fenced acres, complete with round-the-clock, personalized attention.

Hard to say goodbye

One of the most difficult things a dog lover has to do is to leave the dog behind when going out of town. Even the most relaxing vacation can be tarnished by those nagging worries about the safety and well-being of your four-legged pal back home.

Some dogs do fine in a kennel, of course. They don’t mind the noises or the confinement and they seem to enjoy the new smells. But for our dogs, who hadn’t been crated since their puppy days, slept on our bed each night and had the run of the house while we were out, I knew instinctively that a kennel would never work. Our noise-sensitive girl would be frightened and our social-butterfly boy would bark himself hoarse at the indignity of being confined. There had to be another way. Then we met Terri.

A doggie vacation

The first time we left our dogs with Terri, I gave her 11 pages of instructions. (Ok, so I’m a little detailed…) She read every word, (just to humor me, no doubt) but I needn’t have worried. This is a woman who more than loves dogs – she communes with them.

After one vacation, we drove eagerly from the airport to Terri’s house to pick up the dogs. We were so excited to see our beloved furkids that we couldn’t get there fast enough! Upon our arrival, we were showered with joyful wags and kisses and regaled by Terri’s stories of funny things the pups had done while we were away.

All went well until it was time to leave. As we opened the van door and told the dogs to get in, all the joy disappeared. Kody turned away from us and suddenly found a very interesting spot in the grass to sniff. Then it was Ruby’s turn. As my husband (Ruby’s favorite person in all the world) reached down to encourage her into the van, she all but said, “I’m not going,” by lying down flat on her side in the driveway in a very clear act of civil disobedience! (She always was our drama queen.)

I was speechless. I had never seen them act this way. But my surprise soon turned to relief as I realized that the dogs didn’t just have a good time at Terri’s, they had a fantastic time! They felt loved and cared for and safe. And that’s priceless.

Groomed for dog sitting

Terri is priceless, too. She is warm and kind, with a huge heart for dogs. But she is also smart, organized, disciplined and clearly in charge of the pack. She seems most comfortable amidst a pack, in fact, which is not surprising, since she grew up surrounded by siblings and a menagerie of dogs, cats, and horses.

Terri left the corporate world in 1996 knowing only that she wanted to work with animals. It wasn’t long before she had found her calling. Dog walking, which she took on to pay the bills, turned into house and dog sitting, which grew into taking groups of dogs to the off-leash park, which evolved into boarding dogs. She completed the dog training course she had been taking, only to discover that she was too busy to add training to her list of services!

Juuust right

At Dogs-a-Jammin’, you’ll find the perfect balance of structure and freedom. The canine guests have their choice of a number of clean, cozy beds, toys to enjoy and a huge yard to roam, but Terri keeps everyone in line. Everyone knows the drill.

This is, after all, the secret to a happy, well-behaved dog. Provide the structure that makes them feel safe, but give them the freedom to play. Toss in a little love and you’ve found it – the place your dog will be happy to call “home away from home.”
