Exiled Thai ex-Prime Minister Thaksin Shinwatra arrived in Cambodia on Tuesday morning. He's in Cambodia to give a speech in front of 300 economists on Thursday.

According to the Bangkok Post, Thaksin was taken to the capital, Phnom Pehn, in a convoy under a tight escort.  Meanwhile, the Thai government continues to demand Cambodia extradite him to Thailand and to accuse him of more and increasingly serious charges.  In fact, the Thai government are now giving Thaksin so much publicity, he doesn't have to do much of it himself.

As far as Thaksin being extradited to Thailand, it's highly unlikely. Not only has the Cambodian government courted him to become an economic adviser to Cambodia, the Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen is a personal friend of Thaksin's.  The Cambodian foreign ministry has also announced, "We will not extradite him (Thaksin). We already clarified this case because he is a political victim", as the Cambodian government believes, as do many Thais, Thaksin was overthrown in a military coup because the military disliked him being so powerful. Therefore, they view him as a political fugitive from Thailand.

Meanwhile, the Thai government is practically apoplectic they are so angry Thaksin is not only being treated so well by Cambodia but that Cambodia is thumbing its nose at Thailand too.  It's a pity the Thai government doesn't seem to understand, all this chest beating is just making more and more people support Thaksin and more and more feel like the Thai government is weak and powerless.

Thaksin Shinawatra is expected to stay in Cambodia for at least the next three days.
