
Local culinary students get to work with famous chefs every semester in their eight week chef artist class as a part of their passing requirements. This year, students from the Harrah Hotel College worked side by side with Simon's at Palms Place owner and chef, Kerry Simon, who also owns CatHouse at the Luxor, planning and executing a banquet for 120 people. From macaroni and cheese truffles to running a banquet kitchen and learning front-of-house etiquette. Students are able to get hands on training of learning the sequence of service, beverage menu management and food preparation.
As reported by Laura Emerson in the local Southeast View's 11.03.09 newspaper, October 15th was the day the UNLV students served about 120 meals that included hors d'oeuvres and a four course meal. Decorated in the rock n roll motif to celebrate their celebrity artist, al the proceeds from the event went to scholarship funds for students and faculty in the food and beverage department.
