Halloween is one of very few holidays that everyone can celebrate regardless of religion, ethnicity or background.
Halloween is a very American and very embracing day as well. What better day to represent America’s diversity? No matter one’s cultural background, religion, anyone can dress up and party the night away.
Many holidays, people are left out of the festivities. On the other hand, there are those who abandon their cultural heritage just to be a part of the hustle and bustle, like Christmas.
Children growing up as first generation Americans get mixed up into this type of back and forth pull very easily. They are confused about what part of their heritage to hold on to, and what is ok to let go of in light of fitting in with the crowd.
The beauty about Halloween however is that there is no confusing dilemma. Even though the holiday is geared mostly towards children all ages can participate in the festivities. Grandparents and parents can dress up to pass out candy, or chaperone kids who “trick-or-treat”. Young adults have fun dressing up in crazy outfits for costume parties. Even pets can get dressed up!
Here is a list of fun things to do in San Diego for Halloween. Fun for all the family, and especially the kids, Fiesta De Reyes in Old Town San Diego will be hosting trick-or-treating from 4-6:30 p.m. and storytelling at 8 p.m. Sea World hosts a spooky day for kids called Halloween Spooktacular.
Be sure to get set, and carve those pumpkins at San Diego Martial Arts Center. Kids can dress up, and adults have fun carving. For additional information, contact Thaikarate@aol.com
For those who like a little more fright to the night, be sure to check out Scream Zone at the Del Mar Fair Grounds, or the Haunted Trail at Balboa Park.
