In the 1960s, Hot Wheels were free with a gas fill up. Today these Hot Wheels sell for the hundreds of dollars. Perhaps you have something in your attic or tucked away in a box that is a rare collector item. That is how one man found out that his father’s Hot Wheels were several thousand times more expensive than the gas paid for at that time.
The guest in this particular show moved his parents out of their condo and found quite a few Hot Wheels in the bottom of a barrel. They were unopened, never played with, and in perfect condition. Gary Sohmers, the appraiser, ask if the man knew the value of the collection. The man said no and then dropped his jaw when the amount was told. His collection was valued at upwards of $4,000.
Go clean out your closets and barrels. Take them to the Roadshow Tour in your area. Find out if your hidden treasures are worth a penny or two. In fact, I think the White House and museums need to clean out their basements. They need to get to the bottom of the barrel and get rid of stuff that isn’t being used. Maybe if they did, the deficit would be less.
The Public Television Station airs the Antique Roadshow, which is a big hit if you are curios about your hidden treasures.
The Antique Roadshow is coming to Raleigh, North Carolina on June 27th, 2009. Check the website above for a time and place in your area.
