The third annual Girl Power! event will be held today, Saturday, November 14, 2009, at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. The Clarion Health event is aimed at helping Indiana girls between the ages of 7-14 years discover the benefits of self-esteem and positive body image, fitness and nutrition, personal well-being, disability awareness, and more.
Recent national studies by the Dove Foundation show 7 out of 10 girls believe they are inadequate in some way, that they do not measure up to expectations. Clarion Health is determined to help Indiana’s girls grow up to be strong, healthy and confident women by helping them find the resources they need to build their self-confidence at an early age.
More than 45 community exhibitors will be present at Girl Power! to provide interactive activities for the girls, including health and fitness demonstrations, skin health tips, and hands-on art. Tamika Catchings, small forward for the Indiana Fever and member of the 2004 Gold Medal USA Women’s Basketball Team, is this year’s keynote speaker.
