John Travolta tells jury how he tried to save his son Jett, acknowledges Jett's autism (photos)
John Travolta took the stand today in the Bahamas extortion trial against an ambulance driver and lawyer who demanded $25 million to suppress a liability release form he signed after his 16-year-old son, Jett, had a fatal seizure in January.
During his testimony, he acknowledged Jett's autism -- a no-no for Scientologists, who don't believe in psychological disorders or in psychiatry. The Travoltas had insisted earlier that Jett's illness was not autism, but Kawasaki disease. TMZ reports that John testified today:
[Jett] was autistic. He suffered from a seizure disorder."
He described in heartbreaking detail his attempts to save his son. He told the jury that Jett's nanny woke he and wife
Kelly Preston around 10:15 a.m. to alert them that their sonwas unconscious in his bathroom, according to an
E! News report.
I ran downstairs with my wife to help my son.
Kelly watched as John recalled that when he got to his son, one of Jett's caregivers was already performing chest compressions. John immediately began administering CPR to his son.
Jeff, the other nanny, was doing some compressions. I was doing the breathing."
The court then took a recess for lunch.
