A few hours after Michael Jackson's death, family attorney Brian Oxman spoke to CNN from the hospital, where he was with the Jackson family, whom he described as "sobbing" and "stunned." He said he suspects drugs played a role in the 50-year-old singer's death due to cardiac arrest (see video):
Michael has always been in fine physical condition. ... This is not something that was unexpected ... because of the medications which Michael was under. ... The people who have surrounded him have been enabling him.
If you think the case with Anna Nicole Smith was an abuse, it's nothing in comparison to what we have seen taking place in Michael Jackson's life."
The Los Angeles County Coroner will perform an autopsy on Michael Jackson's body Friday, according to reports on TMZ, E! News and numerous other news sites, but there is no way to estimate how long it might take to determine results.
CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta said onAnderson Cooper's 360º show that if heart disease or artery blockage caused the cardiac arrest, the coroner will know right away. But it will take longer to complete toxicology and tissue tests to determine if prescription drugs did play a role in Michael Jackson's death.
It may be a while before Michael can truly rest in peace.
