When news of Michael Jackson's death was first posted on Twitter, nobody wanted to believe it. Most celebrities were trying to find out if *legitimate* news sources had confirmed it. 

Alyssa Milano: Has a credible news source confirmed Michael Jackson's death?

Martha Stewart: i am waiting to see if the rumors are true about michael jackson

Samantha Ronson: i really really really really really hope that the internet rumours are incorrect.

Ashlee Simpson Wentz: TMZ please be wrong. Everyone have hope.

Then when the worst was confirmed to be true, the shock and sadness began to spread. Ashton Kutcher asked his 2+ million followers to pray for Michael Jackson's children, adding:

I plea to the public to refuse to consume media that does not respect the anonymity of Michael's children.

The sadness and mourning flooded in.

 Ashton Kutcher: RIP Sending love and light to family and friend but especially his kids.

MC Hammer: I have no words.. I loved Michael Jackson. RIP

Alyssa Milano: Remember the first time you saw him moonwalk? RIP Michael Jackson.

Kim Kardashian: Music will never be the same

Al Yankovic: Oh man. Can't believe it. RIP Michael Jackson.

Pete Wentz: I have never felt this before in my life. I could measure my childhood 2 now on an mj growth chart. if this is true. RIP. The last legend.

Jane Fonda: I am stunned. My friend, Michael Jackson is dead. He lived with me for a week on "Golden Pond" set after "Thriller."

The tweets go on and on, and will only increase as more people become aware of the sad news. The King of Pop may be gone, but his music and charity will live on forever.
