Gwyneth Paltrow will play Nicole Kidman's wife in "The Danish Girl," a story about the relationship between the first post-operative transsexual, Einar Wegener, and his wife, Greta. Charlize Theron originally was cast in the role, but she dropped out of the production before filming started.
In the movie, Paltrow's character is an artist who asks her husband to pose as a stand-in for a female model. Getting into character as a female -- complete with dress, stockings and shoes -- turns out to be a real-life transformation as well.
Greta stands by her man all the way through the sex change operation, but eventually has to face the reality that her man truly is a woman -- and is no longer her husband.
Thomas Alfredson, who directed the Swedish vampire film, "Let the Right One In," is directing the movie.
