In a heartwrenching interview on "Good Morning America" today, Grammy-winning gospel music star Steven Curtis Chapman and his family talked about the profound loss they suffered when their youngest child, 5-year-old Maria Sue, was accidentally hit and killed by their 17-year-old son Will as he attempted to back out of their driveway.
Maria was running to see her father and she darted into the path of the car, her mother Mary Beth explained.
Steven jumped into the car to get to the hospital and instinctively rolled down the window to call out to his grieving and frightened son.
"Will Franklin, your father loves you," he called out.
In the GMA interview, Steven described his struggle to grieve the death of one child while supporting the ones who lived on.
It is a tragic but inspiring story.
"We're a family of great faith but we're a family with a lot of questions," Steven said. "That's what faith is, living with the questions."
