After a few decades of "Miracle on 34th Street," "It's a Wonderful Life" and "A Charlie Brown Christmas," it's nice to see a holiday movie on TV that wasn't made last century.
Patrick Swayze and Carmen Electra star in "Christmas Wonderland," a comedy about a family that isn't exactly overloaded with Christmas cheer.
The Saunders family just moved from Los Angeles to Edmonton, Canada, so they have no friends. The father (Patrick Swayze) lost his job so they have no money. But wait, there's more.
The mother (Rachel Hayward) got stuck at LAX on Christmas Eve because the airline overbooked.
When the going gets tough, the tough go shopping. So the family minus mom heads to the huge Edmonton Mall, where the youngest kid, Mary (Amy and Zoe Schlagel) asks Santa for a million dollars. And, you guessed it, a bag of cash practically falls in her lap.
Of course, the cash belongs to a gang of thieves (Carmen Electra, Chris Kattan and Preston Lacy).
You get the basic idea. It's a fun movie and since our cash situation is sort of like the Saunders family's, we're just happy to have a fun holiday movie we can watch for free.
"Christmas Wonderland" airs Saturday, December 20 at 8 p.m. on ABC Family.
