Face it, folks. If John McCain and Sarah Palin are elected, they'll be serving moose in the White House.
In recognition of that possibility, we offer you a few facts on moose hunting, courtesy of the State of Alaska.
First off, there are about 175,000 moose in Alaska. Hunters kill about 7,000 of them every year. They call it "harvesting."
In case you didn't already know it, moose are huge.
If you do kill a moose, you'll have to schlep 400 to 700 pounds of meat and up to 65 pounds of antlers to your truck and then home (on what, a plane?).
Here's a photo of Sarah Palin and her daughter with a moose that Sarah had just shot and killed:

To us, that's not a pretty sight. We hate hunting. And we can't imagine teaching our children to kill animals. But we're vegetarians, so we're biased. And we do think that meat-eaters should have to see where their burgers come from.
Quick side note, courtesy of the Free Republic, a conservative Alaska web site. Moose aren't the only animals who aren't safe from Sarah:
Palin’s administration issues permits to shoot wolves from low-flying aircraft or chase them to exhaustion and kill them at point-blank range. To encourage more killing, she even proposed a $150 bounty for the left foreleg of each dead wolf.
Here are some photos of Alaskan moose. We'll never understand why anyone would want to hunt down and kill these (or any) animals.
But we want to know how you feel about it. Take a look at the photos and then vote in our poll: How do you feel about hunting and killing Alaskan moose?
