"Dancing With the Stars" champion Helio Castroneves is set to appear in court in Miami today after being indicted yesterday (Thursday, Oct. 2) on charges of conspiracy and tax evasion.

People reports that a federal grand jury accused Helio of "siphoning millions of dollars in income to a Panamanian shell company from 1999 to 2004."

If convicted, the maximum penalty is 35 years in prison.

His sister and business manager Katiucia Castroneves and his attorney, Alan Miller, were also indicted, People reports.

Criminal attorney Mark Seiden, who is representing Helio in this case, said it wasn't Helio's fault:

He relied in good faith on competent professionals for tax advice. We don't feel he did anything wrong and will be vindicated in court."

We hope so.
