Feds charge Wesley Snipes $217,363 for court costs
POSTED June 19, 7:55 AM

Federal prosecutors don't just want Wesley Snipes to pay his taxes. They want him to pay what it cost them to convict him — and that's a lot of dough. Here's the full story from the Orlando Sentinel:

The government recently sent a "cost of prosecution" bill to the judge in the case. The Orlando-born actor was convicted on three misdemeanor counts of failing to file a federal tax return for the years 1999, 2000 and 2001 and sentenced in April to 36 months in federal prison. He remains free while his case is on appeal. His attorneys object to many of the fees the government is seeking.

$193,716.98 for scanning, printing and numbering documents

About 260 boxes of documents were seized from the Lake County offices of American Rights Litigators, which prepared and filed many of the actor's obstructive responses to the IRS.

$21,052.19 for witnesses

Prosecutors want to be reimbursed for the time and travel expenses of 13 witnesses, many of whom work for the Internal Revenue Service.

$2,456.40 for transcripts

Prosecutors say the daily trial transcripts were necessary for the government to be "on an equal footing" with the defense, which had ordered them.

$138.18 for making certified color copies of trial exhibits

Shoulda gone to Kinkos.
