Billy Ray Cyrus on Miley's photos: 'I didn't know they were going to strip her down'

Billy Ray Cyrus told Meredith Vieira this morning that he was surprised to see the semi-nude Vanity Fair shots of his daughter, Miley Cyrus.

"I didn't know they were going to strip her down and wrap her in a blanket," he said on the Today show.

Cyrus, who appeared on the show to promote his TV show "Nashville Star," told Viera he had stopped by the set to get his own photo taken by Annie Liebovitz, but he was not present when the controversial shots were taken. Miley's rep was there, but he was not, he said. He had an engagement in Washington state to play for troops returning from Iraq. He had no idea what the photographer had in mind, he said.

Then why didn't he complain when he saw the photos?

"Because my dad always said, 'The more you stomp in poop, the more it stinks.' "
