Radiohead: 'Some things cost more than you realize'

May 13, 9:08 AM
by Liz Barrett, Celebrity News Examiner

Radiohead
isn't merely giving away music (though you can pay whatever you want for their new album on their web site). The band is trying to raise awareness — again — about child slavery. Their "All I Need" video is a split-screen of two young boys, one in suburbia and one in a sweatshop.

One boy spends his day learning in school and coloring in pictures while the other brushes glue over and over onto the soles of shoes. It's a simple portrait with a powerful message: "Some things cost more than you realize."

MTV had to make sure the video didn't cost them more than they realized.

Some of their biggest advertisers manufacture products in questionable situations abroad.

According to Celebs Gone Good, Thom Yorke told the Hollywood Reporter: "All power to MTV for taking this on because its obviously going to be difficult for them in terms of the advertisers. With the ('All I Need') video, their lawyers had to beg to make sure there wasn't a single white trainer with a logo on it because the implication would be a little too close. But the implication is still there."
We salute Radiohead and MTV for putting their money where their hearts are.
