Even gossip queen Perez Hilton is on to a serious story today — former sex kitten Brigitte Bardot (now 73) could be headed for jail, he says. The French animal activist is on trial for inciting racial hatred over remarks in a letter to president Nicholas Sarkozy denouncing Muslims for slaughtering sheep during their festival of Eid al-Adha.

"I am fed up with being under the thumb of this population which is destroying us, destroying our country and imposing its acts," she wrote. The letter was then published by Bardot's foundation, according to the Guardian.

This is the fifth time Bardot has been charged with inciting racial hatred, according to the British paper.

"She has previously railed against what she termed 'the Islamisation of France' and claimed that the nation was being invaded by 'sheep-slaughtering Muslims,' " the Guardian noted.

Bardot has been fined for these types of comments four times since 1997. The prosecutor is seeking a suspended two-year prision sentence and a fine of 15,000 euros ($23,740).
