November is Pomegranate Month, the time to celebrate this deliciously nutritious and tedious fruit. Often considered the forbidden fruit offered to Adam by Eve, there is a sense of naughtiness when indulging in the deep red juiciness. Here is a recipe for a cocktail to make your enjoyment of this taboo fruit even more sinfully delicious:

Pomegranate Sherry Cocktail

Ingredients:

3 heaping tablespoons of fresh pomegranate seeds
2 ounces Vanilla Vodka, suggested: Absolut Vanilla
1 ounce strong Oloroso Sherry, suggested: Gobernador
Splash of Mathilde Raspberry Liqueur
Tablespoon (roughly) of fresh lemon juice
Lemon zest for garnish

Muddle the fresh pomegranate seeds in the bottom of a tall glass
Add the Vodka, Sherry, Raspberry Liqueur and lemon juice
Pour over ice in a shaker, shake and strain into a champagne flute
Twist a lemon zest and add to the drink or side of glass as a garnish
Enjoy!

This drink is refreshing and crisp with the nuttiness of the Sherry coming through as a never-ending finish. The color of the drink is also spectacular, making this a festive party or special occasion cocktail. The flavors are well integrated but strong, making it an ideal after drink for later in the evening.

Buy it in Brooklyn: You can find Absolut Vanilla, Mathilde Raspberry Liqueur, and Gobernador Sherry at Heights Chateau in Brooklyn Heights. Delicious and ripe pomegranates can be purchased right now from Fairway in red Hook.
