Brent Hollerud (30) says the Monsters are as good as the NAHL teams (dadphoto.com)

After enjoying several successful home stands in October and November, Fresno hockey fans may have found themselves feeling a little out of sorts last week. Not only were the Fresno Monsters not playing at home, they weren't playing period. The team and coaching staff got a well deserved weekend without games, so the coaches gave the players an entire week off. With no practice and no immediate games to worry about, the players were able to manage their own time and unwind in whatever way they thought was best. I checked in with the guys to see how they spent their time off. Their following is a description of their vacations, in their own words.

Forward-Rob Kolander: I got the chance to go home (Michigan) and see my dad and friends. I think the break will benefit all of us. We got a chance to rest after the constant weekends of games. Plus, with a few guys on injuries it will let them come back with ease.

Goalie-Matt Anderson: I spent my week off back in Michigan getting to see family and friends. This was good because I got to recharge the batteries and get excited for the rest of the season ahead of us.

Goalie Peter Megariotis: I spent my weekend back home in Anaheim hills. I was really glad to see my family and spend time with them. I also spent time with my friends. I was only on the ice once this week, but I went to the gym everyday to keep up the strength and cardio. I can't wait to play in front of Fresno again.

Forward-Justin Wilmers: I spent my week back home in good ol' Valencia. I mostly just hung out with the family and went to the gym. It was nice to get my mind off hockey for a little bit and just relax. However, I feel like this break has elevated the desire to get back on the ice.

Goalie-Brent Hollerud: I got the chance to go back to Minnesota and spend some time with my family. It was nice to have some time off the ice, but I still got the chance to watch some hockey. I went to a Minnesota Wild game and my buddy's game in North Iowa of the NAHL. I realized the Monsters are every bit as good as these teams in higher leagues and am excited to prove it in the coming months.

Forward-Ben Conroy: I went back home to San Jose this past week and spent time with my family and friends and just relaxed. I also skated with some old buddies of mine. (Time off) will affect the team and me by giving us a chance to take a break and get rested up for a little bit without the pressure of the games and practice all week.

Forward-James McGuirk: I went back home to newbury park and hung out with friends and family. I got a lot of my sleep back and was able to see a lot of my friends back home. My family and I had some quality time together and it definently put me in the mood to get down to business with the hockey team again. I feel refreshed and ready to get to work.

Check back tomorrow as we catch up with more of the team...
