A new survey released Thursday confirmed what Torontonians have been saying for years -- Steeles Avenue is the worst road in Ontario.
The Canadian Automobile Association [CAA] and the Ontario Road Builders’ Association released its annual list of the top 20 worst roads in Ontario. At the top of the list was Steeles Avenue -- the second year in a row it has received the dubious honour.
Almost 10,000 people voted at CAA stores, auto repair facilities, and online at www.worstroads.ca.
Most of the roads that made the 2009 list were north of -- and including -- Eglinton Ave. in Toronto. Highway 401, Finch, St. Clair and Victoria Park Avenues were new additions to the list.
Ritson Road in Oshawa jumped from sixteenth place last year to second on this years list.
The CAA said damage caused by bad roads, like hitting a pothole while driving your vehicle, could cost you between $500 and $2,000.
Accidents directly related to poor roads cause over 25,000 injuries and up to 350 fatalities each year, Transport Canada said.
