Clean Pull, High Clean Pull, Power Clean, Clean and Jerk, Power Snatch, Dumbbell Single Arm Power Snatch. More and more people are doing these lifts in gyms. Once upon a time those lifts were only seen during an Olympic Weightlifting Competition. That has changed. Nowadays all kinds of people are executing these lifts. That makes many of us wonder. Why? Who are these people that are doing these lifts? Should I be doing these lifts? You are about to get the answer to all of those questions.
Outside of people that are registrants for a weightlifting competition, these lifts are being executed by people that need to develop explosiveness, particularly in the hip region of their bodies. More specifically, these lifts need to done by athletes. One thing needs to be said first, however. No one should follow these lifts until and unless they have been trained properly by a coach that is certified to teach these lifts. In the ideal scenario, the athlete will always be under the supervision of their certified coach. If the certified coach feels the athlete can execute these lifts without their supervision, that is fine. The coach needs to grant this permission, though. When executed properly, Olympic powerlifts are more beneficial that can be properly described. The athlete will be more powerful which will undoubtedly help them increase their overall athletic performance. The athlete will be quicker, faster, more powerful and just better.
The general public that has a desire to get into or maintain good general fitness does not need to lift like an athlete. In short, if you are working out to get into shape, stay away from those lifts.
