In the spirit of Halloween, it seemed fitting to write about this aromatic and healing relative of the onion. In medieval times garlic was worn around the neck to keep werewolves at bay. Besides a crucifix or cross, garlic was used to fend off vampires. Braids of garlic were often hung in doorways to ward off evil spirits. Garlic is even mentioned in Egyptian times. Garlic's popularity has remained steadfast throughout the centuries for all its healing qualities.

Garlic is used in so many different cultures for medicinal and cooking purposes. Of course, garlic bread is a delicious side dish with any Italian cuisine. The odor is very pungent as a raw bulb. When garlic is reduced in cooking it enhances the flavor of any entrée. Another yummy way garlic can be consumed is in oil form.
By eating garlic on a regular basis you are actually helping your body in numerous ways to stay healthy and protect your immune system. Garlic has anti-aging qualities. Garlic is an effective antibiotic and antiviral herb. Along with that, allium sativum (garlic) can reduce high cholesterol levels and lower high blood pressure.
