Starting Monday September 8, Baltimore will have its very first 50-thousand watt (daytime) ALL-SPORTS TALK RADIO Station.

WVIE -  1370 AM will change formats to become the first  50-thousand watt station in the city to broadcast nothing but sports and sports-talk radio 24/7.  No word yet on whether the call letters will change along with the format.

Until now WVIE struggled for ratings, and, an identity.  The station will broadcast FOX SPORTS as well local sports content from 3 to 6 pm with  Jerry Coleman, formerly of WBAL RADIO, hosting the afternoon call-in talk show, with producer Pat "Rulz" O'Neal manning the phones, and setting up guests.  Looks like WBAL radio will lose its FOX SPORTS feed, listeners will tune in to 1370 instead.

WVIE is the "sister" station of WCBM - 680 AM.  Both stations are owned by the Mangione family,  and both operate from the same Pikesville location.  WVIE used to be WLG which played Oldies, then became all-female talk. Over the past few months, WVIE listeners heard a variety of talk show hosts, but starting next Monday, we're told that all changes.

Baltimore has been hungry for this type of radio for a long time. In less than a week,  sports fans will get what they have been waiting for!  SPORTS TALK Radio, with local input from 3-6pm initially, with that expected to expand.

How well do you think SPORTS TALK Radio will do in Baltimore?
