With the anniversary of 9-11 I wanted to know just how you learned about the first plane hitting the World Trade Center that morning. Where were you? What did you you do to learn more details? Did you watch television, or tune into the radio? Did you log on to your computer? Did you ask your neighbors or coworkers what was going on?
Personally, I remember putting on the radio, and hearing Peter Jennings on the air, which seemed odd because he was the ABC Evening News Anchor and I didn't understand at first why he was on the air. It was a few minutes after 9 am that Tuesday, September 11, 2001, and I had finished a morning live shot for WJZ Television and come back home to put my (then) 9 year old son Daniel on the bus to Carney Elementaty School. Jennings must have been the anchor on duty that day at ABC, which was broadcast over the airwaves of AM 680, WCBM.
Turning on the television, it was obvious there was a plane of some sort which had crashed into one of the World Trade Center Buildings, and at that exact moment, the second plane flew into the second building. The television stayed on all day long, as well as the radio, where my current co-workers at WCBM gave a detailed account of what was happening.
Please share your stories from that day, how did you find out more, and what media provided you with the most information, or the best coverage, in your opinion?
