Thursday night at the Rickshaw Stop in San Francisco, indie musicians from all around the bay area got together to celebrate. The reason? The Bay Bridged, one of the San Francisco bay area's best sources for information about local indie bands, turned three this year.
Founded by Christian Cunningham and Ben Van Houten, the Bay Bridged has the main goal of presenting as many great local bands from the bay area indie scene as possible.
For their celebration, Van Houten and Cunningham booked an amazing show featuring Geographer, Birds and Batteries, and Heavenly States.
Geographer kicked off the evening with an intense set that combined their signature driving beats, smooth guitar, and clear, powerful vocals with a style that's reminiscent of Morrisey.
Birds and Batteries followed, combining bluesy hard rock with danceable beats that alternated with an unusual use of syncopated rhythm. They'd start on one tempo, then switch abruptly into another. The effect was a little bit jarring for me but definitely unique.
Then the Heavenly States took the stage and brought down the house with some good, solid rock n' roll.
I can't think of a better way for the Bay Bridged to celebrate it's third year. Congratulations guys! And if you all are reading, please remember to check out their website: The Bay Bridged.
