The U.S. House of Representatives narrowly passed a sweeping health care reform bill late Saturday night, 220-215.
Third District Congressman John Yarmuth (D-Louisville) was the only Kentucky representative who voted for the bill. Democrat Ben Chandler, and Republicans Geoff Davis, Hal Rogers, Brett Guthrie and Ed Whitfield all cast no votes.
Chandler joined 38 other Democrats opposing the bill.
One Republican broke ranks and voted for the legislation – Rep. Ahn ‘Joseph’ Cao from Louisiana’s Second District. Cao, a first term congressman, represents the heavily Democrat Jefferson Parish in New Orleans. He won his seat defeating Rep. William Jefferson, who is under indictment on federal corruption charges.
