
Stanford had a great chance to pull the upset last night in Los Angeles and defeat USC but they fell short and lost 70-69.
Stanford has played three Pac-10 road games this season and have lost each game by one point.
Lawrence Hil led the Cardinal with 19 points and eight rebounds. Landry Fields contributed 18 points and Mitch Johnson made his return from a calf injury and had 10 points and four assists.
Johnson had all 10 of his points in the first half as Stanford held a 38-33 lead at halftime.
Taj Gibson led USC with 20 points and two blocks. Heralded freshman, DeMar DeRozan, had eight points and five boards for the Trojans.
Josh Owens, Stanford's center, continued to disappoint and had only two points on 1-5 shooting. He only played 12 minutes.
Stanford was down by one point in the final seconds of the game, but had a chance for the win. Hill missed a jumper that would have gave the Cardinal the victory at the buzzer.
Stanford's next game is Saturday afternoon against UCLA..
With the loss, the Cardinal are now 3-5 in the Pac-10 standings. USC is now tied for third place with a 5-3 conference record.
