After reading my last article about how to shop on Black Friday, you should be all set to go out and get some great deals and cross off a lot of names from your Christmas list However, what if you have to work on Friday? What if you don’t have a sitter for your children? Maybe the in-laws are coming over for pie? Or maybe you suffer from Enochlophobia, or don't want to fight the Boston crowds.
Not to worry, Boston, there is always Cyber Monday!
The term “Cyber Monday” was first used during the 2005 holiday season, and has come to represent the beginning of the busiest season for on-line retailers. It is thought that the high speed internet service that many people have at their jobs as opposed to at home lends to the increase in sales on the Monday after Thanksgiving
Similar to Black Friday, websites abound that will alert you to sales, and discounts, and allow you a “sneak-peek” at what is available on Cyber Monday. Although I found that some of these sales are actually a sale in name only, and are really the same price as, well, as if I ordered it today. Again, you can also sign up for email alerts for when a new retailer submits their ad to the Cyber Monday website.
Some of the sites I’ve visited include: www.cybermonday.net; www.cybermonday.com; and www.retalmenot.com, which has a link for Cyber Monday deals, (as well as Black Friday) and has hundreds of coupons that can be used at online retail sites.
Some more tips for shopping Cyber Monday
Sign up for newsletter from any sites that you think you may be ordering from, often times newsletters will have coupons or promo codes to use.
Search the web for promo codes, coupons, or free shipping for the products you are going to be buying.
Use a price comparison website such as www.pricegrabber.com, to comparison shop online.
Visit and bookmark the sites you will purchase from BEFORE Cyber Monday. Setting up an account before hand will save you a lot of time.
Print your receipts and add to your calendar the date you expect the item to arrive.
Using a credit card instead of a debit card not only offers you reward points, but tends to have better consumer protection, in case of damaged, lost or stolen items.
So, if Black Friday has absolutely no appeal to you, you can still get your holiday shopping done without ever leaving the comforting glow of your computere screen!
Happy Shopping!
