The 2009 International Beachcombing Conference will take place in Annapolis, MD at the Philip Merrill Enviromental Center of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Saturday November 7th and Sunday 8th from 9am – 5pm both days. The weekend is a unique opportunity for both novice and dedicated beachcombers to not only expand their knowledge of the science behind beachcombing, but to share the joy of coastal pursuits with other enthusiasts.
The conference will bring leading field specialists and award-winning authors together to discuss all aspects of the beachcombing experience. Morning lectures and panel discussions will be followed by afternoon workshops and field trips, a Saturday evening Beachcomber Bash, artifact identification sessions and book signings. In addition, a Holiday Beach Arts Bazaar, open to both conference participants and the general public, will be held in an adjacent building.
Nationally-recognized environmentalists, paleontologists and marine biologists including former Baltimore Sun reporter and Chesapeake Bay specialist Tom Horton, Stephen Godfrey (Calvert Marine Museum) and Drew Ferrier ( Society for Ocean Sciences) will discuss their thoughts on global warming, beach ecology and artifact identification with authors and photographers such as anthropologist Deacon Ritterbush (A Beachcomber's Odyssey), geologist Margaret Carruthers (Beach Stones), photographer Dave Harp (The Nanticoke), Richard LaMotte (Pure Sea Glass), and Chuck and Debbie Robinson (The Art of Shelling).
