Our Friends at the National Archives at Atlanta are obviously dedicated to making sure homeschoolers have great resources for learning. There is another homeschool day coming up soon.
Press Release Below:
Home School History with the National Archives at Atlanta Sessions for Wednesday, October 21:
10:00 a.m. Mining the Wealth: Exploring the Online Resources of the National Archives
Archives.gov is a busy site full of educational, genealogical, and historical research possibilities. This session will help you map your way through this rich but some times overwhelming website.
1:00 p.m. National History Day and What It Offers the Home Schooler
National History Day is the premiere history curriculum in the nation. Students use the processes of the historian applying research, complex reading, interview, and presentation skills to develop exhibits, documentaries, performances, historical papers and websites. This project-based curriculum is an exciting option for developing student work for the Home School Expo in April.
The National Archives at Atlanta invites the home school community to participate in Home School History every third Wednesday of each month. Sessions are appropriate for grades 5 through 12 (ages 11 to 18). All sessions are free. For more information and the year-long schedule of each morning and afternoon session, contact our Education Specialist, Joel Walker at joel.walker@nara.gov or 770-968-2530. If you plan to attend, we would appreciate that you contact us before Wednesday for photocopying and other planning purposes. The National Archives at Atlanta is located at 5780 Jonesboro Road in Morrow, Georgia (off exit 233 on I-75).
