1. Benny Goodman was the first to be crowned the "King of Swing." Who replaced him? Artie Shaw won the crown with such great hits as " Frenesi," "Begin The Beguine" and "Stardust."
2.Who is credited with giving Goodman the title? Gene Krupa, who was the Goodman drummer. Later, he was also a successful band leader.
3. Which band leader was not married to a movie queen? Charley Barnet, but, he kept up with Artie Shaw in regard to the number of marriages. Artie counted Ava Gardner and Lana Turner among his eight wives.
4. Who was the composer of Artie Shaw's monster hit "Begin The Beguine" ? Cole Porter wrote the words and music for "Begin The Beguine." It had been featured in a Broadway musical.

6. Before Tommy Dorsey, what band did Frank Sinatra sing with? Harry James hired Frank when he was singing at the Rustic Cabin in New Jersey. When Dorsey wanted Sinatra to join his band, James stepped aside, recognizing that it was a great opportunity for Frank. They remained good friends for the rest of their lives.
7. What song was written about the famous New Jersey dance palace, Frank Dailey's Meadowbrook in Cedar Grove? The Meadowbrook is located on the Pompton Turnpike. The state road (Rt. 23) runs from Newark to Riverdale.
