This is a story of singer Jo Stafford and the Thanksgiving Day that changed her life; She and The Pied Pipers were the singing group with Tommy Dorsey and his orchestra. They had a blow-up on Thanksgiving Day 1942 with Tommy Dorsey, who was noted for his temper, at a Portland, Ore. train station. At issue: Who had given a redcap the wrong direction? The upshot: The Pied Pipers and Jo Stafford left Tommy Dorsey, never to return. They returned to Los Angeles and signed with Capitol Records, where Paul Weston was now working, and he became the arranger and orchestra leader for most of the Pipers' recordings. In 1944 Jo Stafford had a hit on her own, ahead of the Pipers, and after a couple more hits, she left  to pursue a solo career and married Paul Weston. Good trivia question....Q. who replaced her?

A.June Hutton replaced her, leaving another group, The Stardusters.

Here is Jo Stafford singing her biggest hit (beside I'll Be Seeing You")  "You Belong To Me."
