I will be taking in the beer scene in Los Angeles and San Diego over the next week and a half, so I will not be posting much or at all during that time.  Worry not, good readers, you do not have to be jealous of me sipping on various Southern California beer offerings because I am going to be jealous of what I am missing here at home in the South.  Here is a list of area beer events taking place over the next couple of weeks.

Remembering the Beer Hunter at The J. Clyde, March 27th:  Michael Jackson was probably the most prolific advocate of beer over the last 40 years.  He was the author of many beer related books and even hosted "The Beer Hunter" television show on the Discovery Channel.  We owe a lot of thanks to Mr. Jackson for the beer culture and revolution that we are experiencing in the US today.  To honor Mr. Jackson on his birthday, The J. Clyde will be hosting a special event.  A $20 ticket will give you access to 4 very exclusive kegs at The J. Clyde on March 27th.  Only 100 tickets will be sold and all proceeds from ticket sales will go to the National Parkinson Foundation.  Offerings from the four kegs will be sold at $6 a glass, and $3 of each glass sold will go to benefit the Free the Hops organization.  This is sure to a wonderful and exclusive event.  You can purchase tickets at The J. Clyde or through PayPal via jerry.hartley@mindspring.com.  The kegs are as follows:

  • Avery Hog Heaven: 12 oz snifter
  • Bell's Batch 9000: 1/2 imperial pint (only one keg of this made it to Alabama and it will be used at this event.  Since this is a one and done brew, this is your only chance to try this beer in Alabama)
  • Good People BlackHefe: .5l weizen glass
  • Yazoo Rye Saison: 12oz snifter

Suds of the South, March 13th:  A small beer event taking place in Tuscaloosa at Little Willie's.  This will be a chance to sample offerings from various Southern breweries and talk with brewery representatives.  Tickets are $10 online.  For more information about who will be there and particulars, just click here

SweetWater Brew Your Cask Off, March 20thAn event that I am very sad to be missing is this oneSweetWater Brewing Company has teamed up with various retailers, charities, homebrew clubs and media outlets to make over 80 varieties of cask conditioned ales.  These will all be unique beers, and this is a big deal to have that much cask ale in one spot on one day.  Tickets are $30 online and $35 at the gate.  For more information about this event, just click here

Terrapin Breast Fest, March 20thTaking place at Terrapin Beer Co.'s brewery in Athens, GA on March 20th from 12pm-5pm.  This is an event to raise awareness and money to help fight breast cancer.  This event will feature live music by local Athens musicians, food, beer tasting, brewery tours and a silent auction.  All proceeds will benefit St. Mary’s Women’s Diagnostic Center, offering breast cancer awareness, and breast health and wellness for local women and families.

Terrapin Beer School at Brasstown Valley Resort and Spa,  March 27thIf you want to escape to the North Georgia mountains to a beautiful resort to learn about beer, you should hit up this event.  For a special package price, you get lodging, admission to the beer school, and fresh Terrapin Beer Co. brews waiting for you in your room.  In addition to the beer classroom, you can also enjoy all the amenities that Brasstown Valley Resort and Spa offers to create a nice little getaway not too far from home.  For more information, just click here

Well that about covers it, Birmingham.  There is lots of fine beer culture to take in over the next couple of weeks, and I am sure all of these events will be great.  Drop me a line at my email (glwoolfolk@gmail.com)  or leave a comment on this page if you attend one of these events.  I would love to hear about your experiences at them.  Have a great time and please remember to be responsible when you are out appreciating all this great beer.  Prost!
