Along with many other bloggers from Denver and beyond, my son and I are participating in the 2009 Kid Art Auction, the brainchild of Denver bloggers Aimee Greeblemonkey and Amy Peck, your Denver Organic Gardening Examiner. This year's proceeds will benefit The Nature Conservancy.

About a month or so ago, I bought some nontoxic finger paints for the boy, who is all of 22 months. I fully intended for his first creations to be donated to Kid Art Auction. My husband and I are more writers than painters, so we had no idea what would spill from Amos' fingers.

He didn't disappoint.

We've donated three of his paintings, shown below in the slideshow. One looks like a thunderbird, another seems like a fanciful dancer, and the third looks like a tree. I like them all. Perhaps they are more Rorschach ink blots than what I see, but to each his own, eh?

Please go to the Flickr group for Kid Art Auction and bid on Amos' creations (listed under imaginary binky). Auction ends at 8pm MST April 30th, 2009.

Bids start at $5, and all you have to do is leave your bid in a comment on the particular photo in the Kid Art Auction Flickr group.

Here are Amy Peck's instructions for smooth bidding:

For Bidders:

  1. Make sure you are a member of Flickr.
  2. Visit the Kid Art Auction For Earth Day 2009 Pool and peruse the masterpieces from all the kids participating.
  3. Bidding starts at $5.00 for every work of art.
  4. Make comments on each piece of art's Flickr page to place your bids.
  5. Closing date and time for the auction is 8pm Mountain time, Wednesday April 30, 2009.
  6. After the closing time, Aimee will go through the Flickr pool and finalize the winning bids.
  7. Winners will be notified via Flickr mail! So please be a member of Flickr!
  8. Once you know you are a winner, please make a donation in the winning amount to: THE NATURE CONSERVANCY. All donations are tax deductible. If you bid on multiple pieces, add your total together to make 1 total contribution.
  9. Once you have confirmation of your donation, copy and paste it into a Flickr mail to the parent of the artist (deleting any confidential information, of course) and the parent will view that as a receipt for the donation.
  10. Include your shipping information in the Flickr mail, and the parent will then ship (via the cheapest mail delivery option) your won artwork to you!

Just think. You could soon be holding your very own Amos Porter painting. Happy bidding, and thanks for participating!
