
Enoch Pratt libraries are a wonderful treasure to Balimoreans.Established in 1888, the librariesoffer a wide-range books for every age and every taste are available, free of charge, to anyone with a library card. With a variety of locations throughout the city there is sure to be a branch near you. You can peruse the on-line catalog or visit in person to make your selections or place a hold on a book, dvd or cd.
Each library has computers available for public use. Library classes teach computer and job skills. Authors and guest speakers are frequently brought in, such as on November 7, 2009 at 7:45 when New York Times columnist Frank Rich will be interviewed by Goucher president Dr. Ungar. Refreshments will be served. RSVP if you would like to attend. Author, activist and author Mike Farrell will be talking about his work Wednesday evening, October 14 in the Central Library at 6:30 p.m.
Movies are also held at the Central Branch such as the Golddiggers of 1933 on Saturday, October 17 at 2:00 p.m.
Databases are available with expert information on a wide range of topics from auto repairs to health and medicine. There are also digital collections that you can look through, including information about Edgar Allan Poe (see my two articles about Mr. Poe). There is a website devoted to helping teenagers with their homework and a site from which you can download audio and ebooks.
