Clif bars recalled in peanut butter recall
My favorite Clif bars have been
               added to the recall list!

The peanut butter recall just keeps growing. There are nearly 200 products recalled including cookies, cereal, dog food, ice cream with more being announce almost daily.

According to the Food and Drug Administration at least 492 people been confirmed sickened by the outbreak with six deaths and a 7th one awaiting confirmation.

Many of us, including our family, have some of the recalled products in our homes. Because of this, we have learned the steps to take in order to get our money back. The most important thing is to destroy the product but before doing so, either write down or cut off the UPC number and stamped date from the items as you will need those to get your refund.

We have had to deal with 4 products: Trader Joe’s granola bars, Clif bars (2 stores) and dog biscuits and Grandma’s Keebler cookies.

The easiest one was the Clif bars from Costco as they are actually calling all of their members who have purchased items on the recalled list. The other Clif bars were bought from Wal-mart so we had the option to either go take them back to Wal-Mart (with our receipt) or by contacting Clif Bar Company at (888) 847-2770 or put in a request online.

We had just purchased the granola bars from Trader Joes so we were given a refund by simply producing our receipt.

The Keebler Company is giving coupons in the value of the recalled products. We just called the (977) 453-5837 and gave them the information, (UPC code, name, address, etc) and they will send Grandma her coupons.

The dog biscuits were returned for a full refund. We had a lucky break with the dog biscuits. We keep a box in the car and give one to Jake whenever we return home and I opened the new biscuit to give him one when my son dropped a bag of groceries on the cement and that distracted me. I ended up grabbing Jake a bone from inside when I went in to get paper towels. Hours later I read the recall! We may have lost a dozen eggs, but fortunately the incident kept those recalled biscuits away from Jake

To check for recalled products read the  FDA complete list of recalls, updated as they come in.

Here are the FDA and CDC recommendations for consumers from their website:

*       Do not eat products that have been recalled and throw them away in a manner that prevents others from eating them.

*     To determine if commercially-prepared or manufactured peanut butter/peanut paste-containing products (such as cookies, crackers, cereal, candy and ice cream) are subject to recall, consumers are urged first to visit FDA’s website and check the searchable database of recalled products.

*     For information on products containing peanut butter from companies not reporting recalls, consumers may wish to consult the company’s website or call the toll-free number listed on most packaging.

*     Information consumers may receive from the companies has not been verified by the FDA.

*     If consumers cannot determine if their peanut butter, peanut butter/peanut paste-containing products or institutionally-served peanut butter contains PCA peanut butter/peanut paste, FDA recommends that they do not consume those products.

*      Persons who think they may have become ill from eating peanut butter are advised to consult their health care providers.
