Turkey Thanksgiving Brining
Brining helps ensure a moist turkey     (NBC)

It is hard to imagine Thanksgiving without envisioning that beautiful turkey dinner.

While everyone smells it cooking and is anticipating how wonderful it will taste, the cook is worried it won’t be done on time or even worse overcooked and dry!

Over the years, we have tried cooking turkey a multiple of ways and have found that the moistest turkeys are the ones that have been brined first.

It is super easy to brine a turkey (or any bird) as all it really takes is water, sugar and salt.

You can adapt the recipe to work for your family by adding herbs, chicken stock, spices etc. to fit their tastes. I like to use a combination of brown sugar and honey for the sugar and we use a mixture of our fresh herbs.

Since there is no one right brining recipe here are four videos showing four different brining methods.

Note: While some of the videos may suggest letting the turkey sit in the brine out of the fridge, safely regulates that you should move things like drinks and condiments into the iced cooler and allow the turkey and brine to be inside the fridge.

A basic (think Seasame Street means Mr. Wizard) explaination on howbrining works followed by a recipe which uses vegetable broth.

A brining recipe that uses bourbon for flavoring but, Jack Daniels is actually a Tennessee Whiskey. Either way, we are going to try this on a chicken as is sounds like it would be really good.
