colored sugar rims are great for Halloween cocktails
Adding colored rims on glasses is easy  (sugarfab)

Halloween parties are always great fun and one of the easiest ways to incorporate the Holiday spirit into a party is with some fun themed drinks. There are many ways to achieve a spooky or eerie type affect with drinks which work really well for a Halloween event.

Presenting Halloween Cocktails

One of the easiest options to change up a drink for both adults and kids is to have the rim of the glasses coated in colored sugar.

With only three ingredients you can make a variety of spooky, fun, eerie or creepy looks with your Halloween party

Ingredients ~

Sugar
Food coloring
Light corn syrup

To add a basic sugar rim you simply mix sugar and food coloring. Different colors will give different effects: red for blood and on vampire drinks, green for slime (or ooze) which kids love and a classic creepy look with a black rim on a red or black drink.

You can get a deeper colored rim by mixing in the same food coloring color to the corn syrup as the sugar. Or go with a contrasting color such as black into the corn syrup (or sugar) and red into the other.

To prepare the glasses ahead of time, mix the colored sugars together and place in shallow bowls. Line the glass with a thin layer of corn syrup and then dip into the colored sugar: twist lightly to get a solid rim. Place the prepared glasses on a tray and pour in the drinks (carefully not to hit the rim) right before serving.

For an added affect, you can add lines of the colored corn syrup down into the glasses. This works especially well for a dripping blood look and is a fun addition to a clear drink or a light colored drink where you can still see the red blood drips.
