Seeds in garden
Nasturtium, seeds still on the vines in our garden

This is a great time to start thinking about saving seeds from your gardens. While hybrid and cross-pollinated plants should not be saved, there are still many that can. We save a few favorites every year from wildflowers to herbs to heirloom plants. This year we spotted an untouched field of beautiful poppies deep in some nearby woods which we can collect seeds from without disturbing the mother plants.

While there are many seeds that save well we have had success with these: Beans, Chicory, cleome, Endive, foxgloves, hollyhock, lettuce, nasturtium, peas, poppies, sweet pea, tomatoes and zinnia.

We will follow up with articles on how to gather, process and store your seeds.
