This is a great time to get a head start on some garden projects. You can make a raised bed in just a few hours and have a new garden area ready come Spring.

We have used raised beds for years, mixing them in with our regular garden beds. Raised beds really do make gardening easier and provide excellent drainage.

You can make a raised bed any size but need to consider how you will access the middle areas of larger beds. Building an 8’ long by 4’ feet wide bed will allow the easily reach the center from either side.

Staining the wood will help the bed last longer: just be sure to avoid using a stain with chemical preservatives. It won’t matter if you have protected the wood if it could end up harming the plants.

One last tip:
Adjust your bed north-south for maximum sun exposure
