apple tree
Apples, apples, apples

We all know how healthy juice is – 100% juice that is. If you search hard, you can find some great choices that are pure juice but of course, they are more expensive. The solution would be to grow your own juice, so to speak.

We have 12 apple trees (3 varieties) which all produce a great many apples. We eat them fresh, bake them, can applesauce and juice them.

Combining fruits makes excellent juice. We make apple/ strawberry juice (and smoothies) by using strawberries we grew and then froze. We do the same using our frozen blackberries and raspberries.

We also add our own fruit to store bought juice, stretching our food budget. For example, we buy pomegranate juice at Trader Joes and then add in another fruit. Our favorite is pomegranate/raspberry but apple and strawberry are pretty good as well.

Along with lessening the sticker shock, adding our home-grown (and organic) fruit to another pure fruit juice, let’s us benefit from the vitamins and nutrients of both fruits.

If you don’t grow your own, you can often get good deals from farmers markets and fruit stands. Do inquire about their growing methods so you know if they are organic or not. Since buying fruit in volume is always cheaper, just freeze or can what you don’t use right away. Then you can have fresh made juice in the middle of winter!

If you can get a great deal on oranges and/or bananas, they are wonderful added to juices as well.
