If you haven’t already made plans for Veteran’s Day, it is not too late to participate in the holiday that honors all U. S. war veterans. Take your children and grandchildren to one of the local events, and share some of your own history and experiences with your family and friends.  There are a number of events happening locally.

Some of the Veteran’s Day events in the San Francisco Bay area include:

  • Antioch’s Veteran’s Day Parade which begins at 11:00 a.m. from the corner of 2nd and L Streets in Antioch. For more information, call 925-325-9897.
  • San Ramon Veteran’s Day Observance begins at 11:00 at San Ramon High School. For information, call Raymond LaRochelle 925-824-5828.
  • Walnut Creek and Lafayette are hosting a joint Veteran’s Day observance at 11:00 at the  Veterans Memorial Building, 3780 Mt. Diablo Blvd., Lafayette, CA. For information, call 925-943-5819.

Today, November 11, 2009 is also a free day at all national parks in observance of Veteran’s Day.  Bay area national parks that are free today include:

We honor those who have served our country in the past and who continue to serve in these times of unrest and war.  Through sharing our narratives, we help preserve our history and we have the chance to pass on understanding of how our lives have been changed and influenced by the past. Let us all work to build unity in these United States of America.
