Last night on The Late Show with David Letterman, Yankee slugger Derek Jeter came out swinging.

Also joined by World Series champion teammates Jorge Posada and Andy Pettitte, David Letterman asked: “I don’t mean any disrespect, but how hung over are you guys?”

“Probably not as bad as you,” Jeter replied.

In what proved a tense but hilarious series of exchanges, David Letterman continued to trade barbs with Derek Jeter throughout the segment.

David Letterman, for example, wanted to discuss relationship rumors and engagement speculation with Jeter.

“I heard that one, yes,” Jeter said. “I heard I was engaged. I heard I’ve been engaged a few times. I’ve heard I’ve been married and have kids, all kind of stuff.”

“But are you engaged or not?” Letterman asked.

“I am not engaged," Derek Jeter replied. "How about you?”

In the wake of the recent sex scandal that rocked the Late Show host, David Letterman was visibly rattled but not upset with the comment.

Letterman's response?

“I’m married. I’m married, by God.”
