
This is the first in a series of profiling different Muslim organizations that serve the community. This series will help to promote a better understanding of the community.
Muslim Family Services based in Detroit, a division of ICNA Relief Programs, seeks to assist, educate and facilitate in the success of families through education, counseling and liaison and supportive services. Muslim Family Services offers a wide variety of services to the community and reaches across the community to people of different faiths and backgrounds. This organization is headed by Chairman of the Board and Director, Dr. Ali Suleiman Ali who holds a Doctorate in Islamic studies from the University of Michigan and a Bachelors in Islamic and Arabic studies from the University of Madina in Saudi Arabia.
In a recent interview with Dr. Ali Suleiman, he related that Muslim Family Services is growing and expanding. Some of their recent accomplishments have been establishing a soup kitchen, sponsoring a number of Janazaas (the Muslim funeral), helping foster children and providing food for a number of people daily. Muslim Family Services collaborates with the Food Bank of Detroit to provide food for those who are in need. They have also had great success with their counseling services helping those through this tough economy with successful crisis counseling, job placement and debt counseling. Because of their achievement, the City of Detroit has chosen to honor them with a grant for food and emergency health.
