Happy Mother's Day

We Mom’s love homemade gifts. Not only are they wonderful when we get them, they are precious treasures when they are grown. One of my favorite Mother’s Day gifts was one my daughter made in her kindergarten classroom.

It is a sweet little gift that any child can make and the best part is it doesn’t cost a thing! You can use items you have around the house, a great way to recycle something you aren’t using into a great gift!

Here’s what you’ll need:

1. An empty container with a lid - any size or shape will work. For example, you can reuse a shoe box or a small gift box or choose a round shape such as an oatmeal box or a salt container.

2. Wrapping paper. Any kind will work; you can use up the ends of paper you have on hand. Let the kids pick out what paper they want to use

3. Ribbon. Let the kids pick out their favorite, or Mom’s favorite color.

4. Computer print out of the poem

5. A cut out heart or any trinket

How to make the gift:

1. Read the poem (below) to the child so they understand the idea of the gift.

2. Help cut out a heart(s) out of construction or wrapping paper. Let them kiss the heart or write the word LOVE on it or let them color it, whatever they want. Some kids may want to use multiple hearts.

3. Have the child put them into the container and wrap the box with the paper and tie the ribbon around the gift.

4. Have the child sign the poem (put a hole in the corner) which can then be attached to the ribbon.

That’s it, an easy gift made from things you already have which is sure to be treasured by any Mom (or Grandma) who receives it. It also makes a great birthday, Christmas or Father’s Day gift.

Here is the poem which of course you can change or even make up your own:

This is a very special gift
that is for you: from me.
I put my love inside
to stay for eternity.

If you are ever lonely,
or you are feeling blue,
you can hold my gift close
and feel my love for you.
